Industrial Officer – full time

The WA Branch of the Australian Services Union has a vacancy for a highly motivated person to join our team as an Industrial Officer.

As an Industrial Officer with the ASU WA Branch, you will work with ASU members to provide industrial advice and representation, including advocacy before industrial courts and tribunals, and negotiation of industrial agreements as required at the level commensurate with your skills and experience.

You’ll be working as part of an Industrial Organising Team in order to realise the aims and objectives of the Western Australian Branch of the ASU by providing sound industrial support to ASU members.

Recognising that Industrial Officers will enter ASU employment with different levels of skills and experience, you will be working with relevant senior staff to as required to realise the aims and objectives of the Branch.

Your key responsibilities would be:

  1. After consultation with relevant senior staff, provides advice and representation in relation to members’ grievances on work related matters including unfair dismissals, Occupational Health and Safety and Equal Opportunity matters.
  2. Prepares researches and progresses claims on industrial matters, members’ entitlements, and collective agreement matters.
  3. Consults with employer representatives and/or organisations on industrial disputes, collective agreement and individual member issues in an effort to resolve issues outside of tribunals.
  4. Using formal agreed dispute settlement procedures, assists members and Industrial Organisers in resolving workplace grievances as required.
  5. Provides advocacy before Industrial Tribunals in conference and hearings on a range of industrial matters, including award or agreement breaches, award variations and other Industrial matters.
  6. Prepares correspondence and documents as required.
  7. Other duties as directed.

A current WA driver’s licence is required.

In return the successful applicant will receive an excellent remuneration package:

  • 13% superannuation
  • Monthly RDOs
  • 15 days personal leave plus additional days at Easter and Christmas
  • Starting salary between L1 $85,536 and L5 $104,566

We will negotiate competitive salary packages to attract suitably qualified, experienced and skilled applicants.
