EI sends protest letter to
Nepal – EI is deeply concerned by the latest declaration made by the Minister of Education, Radha Krishna Mainali. It undermines the International Labour Organization (ILO) Convention No. 87 on Freedom of Association. EI urges the Nepalese government to reconsider its position and, in a conciliatory move, authorise the 1st Convention on 17-18 Mar by both NNTA and NTA under the joint banner of the ‘Teachers Union of Nepal’ (TUN). |
Urgent Action Appeal
for Nepal – EI has launched an Urgent Action Appeal on behalf of our Nepalese affiliates NTA and NNTA. Since 1996, 9000 people have been killed due to the Maoist uprising and since Jan 2004, hundreds of children and their teachers have been abducted in the west of Nepal, either to be enlisted for Maoist training, enslaved in labour camps, or used as human shields in the fightings with security forces. Mr Prem Singh Vohra, Deputy General Secretary of the Nepal Trade Union Congress and principal of the Mahakali Secondary School was abducted on 3 June 2004… |
