The ACTU welcomes the appointment of Dr. Iain Ross AO as Chair of the Net Zero Economy Authority.
Dr. Ross AO brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of industrial relations to the role, with a career spanning several decades. Dr. Ross AO served as a judge of the Federal Court of Australia from March 2012 to November 2022 and was President of the Australian Fair Work Commission during the same period.
Dr. Ross also previously held positions as a judge of the Supreme Court of Victoria, President of the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal, and Commissioner of the Victorian Law Reform Commission. His extensive experience in industrial relations, including his role as Assistant Secretary of the ACTU, positions him well to lead the Authority.
The establishment of the Net Zero Economy Authority forms part of the Albanese Government’s Future Made in Australia plan. It will support workers and communities in energy regions undergoing transition through the creation of well-paid and secure jobs.
The appointment of Dr Ross follows the resignation of Greg Combet as Chair of the NZEA after his appointment to chair the Future Fund. The ACTU also acknowledges and thanks Mr Combet for the role he has played in the establishment of NZEA.
