Working people ready to Change the Government and Change the Rules

Media Release - April 11, 2019

The peak body for working people has called on voters to change the government so the rules can be changed to bring back the fair go for working people.

We want fair pay rises instead of penalty rate cuts. We want jobs we can rely on not more casualisation. We want a fair tax system instead of loopholes for multi-nationals and the very wealthy. We want a united government that will govern for all of us, instead of a divided government doing the bidding of big business.

Working people are ready for change. We are ready to restore the fair go.

On May 18 Australians will have the chance to win that change by voting for parties that support working people and the fair go.

The union movement will continue to fight for a fair go for all, fair pay rises and more secure jobs to election day and beyond.

Quotes attributable to ACTU Secretary Sally McManus:

“This Government has been an unmitigated disaster for working people. We are facing record inequality, record low wage growth and more than half of working people don’t have a secure job.

“We will be campaigning to Change the Rules in communities across the country, working people are hitting the streets in record numbers.

“This election is about a once in a lifetime opportunity to turn around our country and restore fairness.”
